Information about shoulder pads, rosin, etc.
Parents/Guardians - if your child is bringing his/her instrument home to practice, it might be a good idea to have a few items at home. Rosin can be purchased at any music store or on a site like Amazon. Light rosin is fine for this climate. (Sometimes dogs like to eat rosin - so keep it in a safe place.) The contoured polyfoam shoulder pad for violin or viola that the students are using in the classroom is called the poly-pad. When I placed the school order, I ordered from a company called Young Musicians. The shoulder pad comes in small, medium, large and extra large. If you are interested in ordering one, please have your child check with me and I will be able to tell which size they are currently using. For cellists and bassists, a rock stop is necessary when placing the cello on a slippery floor so that the end pin does not slip. Again - this is available at any music store, or online. Sixth grade students are using the book: Essential Elements for Strings - Book 1 I do allow students to check out books and take them home - however - you might want to consider having a book at home for your child. This can be purchased online or at local music stores. Be sure to get the correct book (violin, viola, cello or bass). ********************************************************************** Upcoming concerts and other performance opportunities: Pd. 1 & 2 - 6th grade Beginning Orchestra Students will perform during their class period in December, 2018 Wednesday, December 19,2018 This will be an opportunity for parents/guardians to hear the orchestra students perform several pieces, and also to hear the 6th grade band students perform. All parents/guardians - please remember that it is your responsibility to get both your child and his/her instrument to the orchestra concert at Braden River High School. For cello or bass this will involve transporting the instrument from school by car, and then getting the instrument back to the middle school. In the case of a student sharing an instrument, I will communicate to the students who is responsible for getting the instrument to the high school, and who is responsible for getting the instrument back to the middle school. |
